National Transition Event brings together a community of communities in the heart of the country
The iconic Silverstone provides the backdrop to a national coming together on 24th February as the UK’s National Transition Event (NTE) returns, delivered once again by Armed Forces charities Mission Motorsport and Mission Community, with global brand Amentum the headline sponsor. For the first time ever, this event includes Cadets of all three Services, alongside other members of the Armed Forces community, making this a unique whole community event.
The Armed Forces provide a valuable yet often-untapped resource that underpins society. The UK community, including business, the 3rd sector and government, will come together at NTE on the 24th to help celebrate Veterans, Reservists, Families and now Cadets, and by doing so, unlock a UK strategic asset. With over 1,000 members of the Armed Forces community expected to attend NTE this year, this event brings all of this together across a special day under one roof.
It's no surprise that this year’s theme is ‘Bringing together a community of communities’ and it chimes perfectly with a desire for industry to engage with our Armed Forces and the need for the UK to face both new and everyday challenges. Attendees get the chance to experience the world-famous GP Circuit as part of the Troops’ Track Day; activity that takes place whilst NTE’s networking, keynote speeches and a business marketplace happen in Silverstone’s Wing conference centre overlooking the track.
For the first time in the event’s history, this opportunity is being opened up to Cadets. This ‘Cadet Pilot’ highlights the depth and bredth of talent available from the whole of our Armed Forces community across the generations, with NTE bringing this together.
Mission Motorsport and Mission Community CEO, Army Veteran James Cameron said of the event:
‘This event has grown from a humble track day to the largest community gathering of this kind in the UK. I’m delighted that this year, we’ve invited Cadets, as I know that the many organisations present at NTE, value their potential, just as much as those who may have completed regular service. We are extremely grateful to our sponsors and exhibitors for helping make this happen.’
Beyond the life-changing introductions that this event makes between individual and organisation, NTE will also see one or two surprises, with an iconic car unveiling, political attendance at the highest levels and a mass public signing of the Armed Forces Covenant.
Whether you’re a business looking for new talent, a Cadet seeking opportunity, a charity looking to help others, or a veteran wishing to experience the thrill of racing around Silverstone’s GP Circuit, NTE offers something for you on 24th Feb. This one-of-a-kind event recognises, demonstrates and celebrates the value of every part of our Armed Forces as part of one community of communities.
About Mission Motorsport and Mission Community:
The Forces' Motorsport Charity, whose motto is ‘Race Retrain Recover’ is MoD's competent authority for motorsport as a recovery activity and is a Royal Foundation (the charitable trust of the Prince and Princess of Wales) and Endeavour Fund supported initiative.
A Service Charity and a member of the Confederation of Service Charities, Mission Motorsport has an award winning collaborative model of working with government and the other service charities. It is funded by the Government’s Positive Pathways program, The Soldiers’ Charity (the Army Benevolent Fund), the Forces’ Trust and the Greenwich Hospital as well as by industry partners and independent fundraising.
As part of the MoD's Career Transition Partnership, the charity helps those leaving the military to find employment in the Automotive industry. An Institute of the Motor Industry and LANTRA training provider, Mission Motorsport's Training Wing delivers a range of qualifications up to and including Level 3 Diploma courses and full apprenticeships enabling service leavers to bridge the gap between military service and second careers as civilians, beyond injury.
Mission Community- Championing the Armed Forces in UK Society- delivers ‘Sector Initiatives’; Armed Forces engagement campaigns linked to a UK industry body or trade association. Our roots are within Mission Motorsport’s heritage. In 2019 they launched the first sector initiative Mission Automotive as the Armed Forces engagement initiative for the UK automotive industry in partnership with The Royal Foundation and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and with the support of the Ministry of Defence. In 2021 this model was replicated for the renewable energy sector, with the establishment of Mission Renewable. Both initiatives continue to positively influence their respective sectors today.
Sector initiatives promote and share best practice, harness exemplars and help companies to access and retain Veteran talent, changing behaviours in the workplace, whilst empowering industry. They make the commercial and social value case for Armed Forces community engagement and use the industry bodies as champions for that cause. They reinforce and connect government and third sector support, promoting and rewarding collaboration. In this way, sustainable and relevant employment opportunities for Service Leavers, Veterans, Reservists, and their families are generated, and an enduring Armed Forces’ ‘community of communities’ is created.
